Ruby Simms-Cumbers - Provisional Psychologist (she/ her)

Ruby has over 8 years experience working with neurodivergent (ND) individuals across many settings and is confident working with individuals across the lifespan with people who are neurodivergent, disabled and/ or have mental health conditions. She is familiar with Neurodiversity Affirming Practice, the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) model, the Social Model of Disability, the Double Empathy Problem and ‘Spoon Theory’. 

Ruby uses a client-centered, neuroaffirming, trauma-informed and holistic approach to support clients and their support networks. Ruby is particularly interested in the intersection of neurodiversity and trauma and is trained in many trauma-therapy approaches which she adapts for the individual. 

Ruby holds additional qualifications in art therapy and specialises in creative approaches to therapy including arts therapies (visual art, music, movement), Child-Centred Play Therapy, sandtray therapy and sandplay therapy. These approaches support limited speaking/verbal communication and can be especially helpful for individuals who struggle in this area.

She is also familiar with supporting teenagers and adults drawing from modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Schema Therapy and Somatic-based therapies. She can also support with adjustment to autism/ ADHD diagnosis and developing strategies that support your neurotype.

Ruby also offers autism and ADHD assessments. Ruby takes a holistic, collaborative approach to assessment.

In her free time Ruby enjoys creating art, baking/cooking yummy healthy food, spending time with animals and collecting miniatures for her sandtray collection.
